Procrastination and it’s effects

“The simplest task turns rigid if you don’t do it straight away.” Procrastination is an act of delaying tasks to do in some other time when you feel like doing it. Procrastination is not completely ignoring the task and not doing it. But it is rather waiting for the last moment to do even the simplest of the tasks. It is a habit that slowly turns into an addiction if not dealt with. In today’s time, most of the students be it college or high school are procrastinators. Procrastination is when people try to do something, feel guilty about not doing it, yet continue to be like that rather than just start working. Procrastination can cause different problems like anxiety, low self-esteem, likelihood of error, etc.
Anxiety is common among the ones who procrastinate. Firstly, the ones who procrastinate are not doing so to totally avoid it but rather postponing the task. So, until and unless they get the task done, they’ll have it on their mind and start panicking. This will impact their mental health as they live in a constant fear of failure and rejection. This will have a negative impact on their task when they eventually decide to complete the task at the last moment.
A person who is anxious most the times have low self-esteem. This is because they don’t feel like they deserve the result they got after working hard for just a day. The person doesn’t have anything to do other than worry so they start developing negative thoughts in their mind about themselves which will eventually down any small amount of confidence they have. Procrastinators are also not much involved in the group discussions of any task as they always leave their task for the last minutes. This makes them socially isolated in important discussion which will again result into development of low self-esteem.
A procrastinator is most likely to make an error in their task. While completing tasks in the last minute, people don’t have enough time to go through their tasks multiple times and revise them to catch any errors if present. So, this results in a high risk of presence of error in the task they’ve done. This might not seem as a big trouble but if a powerplant designer turns out as a procrastinator and does some little error while completing the tasks in the last minute, it can result into different catastrophe like the one at Chernobyl.
Procrastination is a problem many people at their young are go through and should be avoided. There is no rocket formula of stopping to procrastinate but the best way of stopping it is by constantly trying to improve yourself in atomic level. Making a routine and following it, doing tasks that requires a short time to do right away and avoiding leaving the tasks for the last minutes are some of the ways to get rid of procrastination problem.
Procrastination causes various problems like anxiety, high probability of error and downfall of confidence. So, it must be dealt with seriousness and reduced slowly and gradually in order to succeed in life and be someone you’re proud of.
